Chinatown

We had so much fun with Gabbi, Olivia, and Seth in Claremont Village that we decided to meet up with them the following day in Chinatown, Los Angeles. We had so much fun posing for photos beneath the red lanterns, shopping for trinkets, and eating at Hop Louie.

We were sad when Rachel's family moved closer to their jobs and farther from us, but our adventures still continue. We visited their sprawling home and then went to the nearby Claremont Village for lunch, and ice cream. Every time we meet up, it's as if they never moved away.

Birthday Dinner

When my mom treats me for a birthday dinner, I usually choose somewhere "ethnic", this year it was Thai food. I did not think we ordered an insane amount of food until the waiter brought out the dishes, filling up our table. Coconut soup, three dishes, plus mango and sticky rice dessert. We did eat a ton, but brought leftovers home as well.

OC Fair with Sam

As of this year, Anna may equate the fair with "thrill rides" but I will always relate it to its unique food and atmosphere. Our tradition is to take a photo next to the vegetable characters and I'm glad Steve and Sam were able to pose for a shot. The blooming onion and turkey leg were especially tasty. We even bumped into Barbara and her family. Another memorable day and year at the OC Fair.

Books and Cupcakes

There are a lot of fun things to do locally in Orange County. This summer day we visited the Newport Beach Library which went through a recent major remodel. The grounds include several government facilities as well as a scenic walkway interspersed with sculptures and greenery. You can get a clear view of the ocean from several viewpoints. There is also a Sprinkles Cupcakes nearby, great place to get a sweet treat.

Marilyn's Japanese Celebration

We celebrated Marilyn's birthday when we visited up north during the summer. We recreated "nagashi somen" as we had enjoyed in Japan, catching the flowing noodles before they reached the bottom. Everyone did a great job! We also enjoyed fried rice, cucumber salad and Japanese meats. The backyard was a beautiful perfect setting for our meal. Happy birthday Marilyn!

For Madison's birthday Anna wanted to take her to the OC Fair and go on all the "scary" rides. And with unlimited ride wristbands and boundless courage, there really wasn't any ride they couldn't go on. Happy birthday Madison!
