Huntington Beach Kite Festival 2012

A couple of weeks ago we went to the HB Kite Festival. It was a nice breezy day. While Steve and I enjoyed strolling around the kite area, the kids had more fun searching for seashells and digging for sand crabs.

Huntington Gardens Solo, Part 2

I toted my Canon camera around like a tourist and would take a long stroll, then find an isolated bench to take a break, then start again. Even though I had visited the Huntington Gardens with the family before, there were a few areas that we never went to. The Cactus Garden was immense, and the photos don't do it justice but some of those plants were huge and magical and unreal. Also, I had the loggia with the wicker chairs and the view of the stained glass all to myself for quite a while. It will be nice to introduce these new areas of the gardens to the family.

Huntington Gardens Solo, Part 1

Most of my days off while job-sharing involve lots of family related stuff, driving the kids to/from school, grocery shopping, cleaning, more cleaning... I carve out time for myself, usually fitting in a treadmill run, or a lunch out. Last month I was super ambitious and drove out to San Marino and went to the Huntington Gardens. It was a much different trip than going with the family, more leisurely, more lingering... after recently finding out that I'll be working full-time in the fall, these kinds of solo outing in the middle of the week feel more special.
