Christ-Like Character Award
Anna received a citizenship award for "Demonstration of Christ-Like Character". We are so proud of her for receiving this recognition!
Here are the primary-grade students who received an award. There were several photo opportunities, the parents (including myself) once again were like paparazzi, but much better-behaved.
Here is Anna receiving her award from the principal.
So how do we celebrate this day? By hula-hooping!

A Fancy First Birthday Party
When my friend Hanna invited me to her daughter Ashley's first birthday party, I asked if my family could come as well. She said, "Sure". Little did I know that this was not your run-of-the-mill bounce-house, pinata, party-bag affair. It was a more formal, sit-down luncheon, flowers, pro-photographer, the works. Wow.
I had read about formal 1st birthdays in the Chinese culture, but I thought that this was practiced only in China! And Hanna is of Korean descent. Excuses, excuses... I guess the locale printed on the invitation, a country club in Buena Park, should have been an obvious hint. Well, our family got a good laugh, and we were probably chuckled at as well, with Anna and Steve both in shorts and tees, while there were several guests in ties and dresses.
Anna said, "From now on I will always wear a dress at birthday parties." Anyway, Ashley's party was lovely, the food was delicious, the slide show was excellent, and the party gift was an embroidered hand towel. It was a memorable party to say the least.

Disneyland during the week
During the week at this time of the year, the lines to see the characters are shorter... 5 minute wait for Mickey!
Less crowds mean bigger smiles.
You have room to do a shoulder ride.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll, look how tall Anna is getting!
During the week at this time of the year you can walk onto some of the rides, like the tea cups.
But any day of the year is a good time to ham it up!

Annual Huntington Beach Kite Party, Day 1
Can you believe it, while parts of the east coast are experiencing snow storms, we are having beach weather? Last weekend, we attended the Annual HB Kite Party. There wasn't a lot of wind Saturday, just enough to get Tweety up in the air for a little while.
Colorful banners lined the kite-flying areas.
Anna is truly a beach girl at heart.
Steve extended his arm and took a nice photo here!
You wouldn't know it by seeing these two large kites flying in the background, but most of the kiters had to take a break for lack of breeze in the air. We happened to catch some of the flyers during a temporary gust.
The kids had a lot of fun making sand loungers. They loved playing on this sand bank for a couple of hours... looks like Sam has the peace sign down like his mom!
We decided to attend the Kite Party on Day 2, hoping to see more kites of course, photos to follow!
