Japan! Day 6, Part 4 : Tanabata BBQ

Tanabata is a "Star Festival" that is celebrated in the summer in Japan. You can see some decorated trees here and there, often around temples and homes and places of business, strung with colorful origami and paper decorations, as well as written wishes. Miyuki and her family held a Tanabata BBQ party and invited current English language teachers from the area to join the fun. They prepared "nagashi somen", the participants had to catch the noodles streaming down the slide. We also enjoyed BBQ cooked by Tasuku. Fireworks topped off the evening. It was an evening of lots of Japanese traditions that we could only experience with wonderful friends like these! What a way to spend the 4th of July in Japan.
