Seattle, Part 5/10: Space Needle

After the Ride the Ducks tour, we headed over to the Space Needle where we had reservations for lunch. It's difficult to spot Anna at the base of the needle but she is there!
The Space Needle was built for the World's Fair in 1962, and stands 605 feet tall. It is Seattle's top tourist spot.

Here is the entrance for the SkyCity revolving restaurant.

This photo makes me chuckle a little, Sam looks like a nonchalant high-roller with his cloth napkin while the waiter is pouring his water. What actually happened was, the waiter had courteously placed the napkin on Sam's lap, and Sam is removing it, saying it feels like "a blanket".

Both were good sports about the photo-taking.
The floor of the restaurant, where the diners are seated, actually revolves, while the surrounding walls and windows, and the center check-in and kitchen area are stationary. It makes one whole revolution in an hour. Fascinating!

Anna took a photo of us here. Steve ordered a halibut sandwich, I had an oyster sandwich, and the kids ate chicken and fries. Everything was really tasty.

This was the view from our table.

After our lunch we went up to the observation deck. It was neat seeing the different landmarks from way up above.

There are several binocular lookout areas to get a closer look.

Anna had a look at downtown Seattle.

So did Sam.

A little brisk yet exhilarating, much better than experiencing the heatwave we had just missed from the week before!

We left the Space Needle for our next destination. Near the base, there are a number of colorful flowers.

Sam is showing me his pet quail here.

Near the Space Needle are more museums, and several sculptures. And a grassy lawn for a game of tag.
